I made it!

I'm tired, hot, overwhelmed and excited because I just landed in Paris and everything feels upside down and crazytimes. As a result, I have so much to say but am way too exhausted to write at the moment so I'll just have to keep you posted (lols) on what's to come. Until then, here's a really cool documentary called the Colour of Beauty. Enjoy :)

Happy Birthday Boyfriend!

Went out last night to Splendido to celebrate the bf's birthday and had a FAB time. The meal was delicious, the decor was beautiful and if my manners hadn't stopped me I probably would have licked my plate clean. Oh ya, and it provided a great excuse to get dressed up a little. Here are some shots from the night!
Anxiously waiting for a taxi to show up and take us to the food!
Top: H&M, Skirt: Banana Republic, Bag: Rudsak, Shoes: Bloch
 Candles and flowers? Fantastic

His cocktail was a gin and tonic done all fancy with rosemary lemon syrup. Mine was tequila with cassis, and lemon ginger syrup.....THEY WERE AMAZING.
The charcuterie plate included whipped fat, steak tar tar, blood sausage and pig cheek to name a few. If you are looking to indulge, THIS is what you need.
Suckling pig and beef striploin tagliata complimented by a fabulous glass of wine = HEAVEN.

Ladies, please date a man who appreciates a good meal....the pay-off is wonderful!

The VERY Prestigious Resort 2011 Canadianista 'BEST' Awards! - Part One

I recently spent a glorious day on the couch flipping through all the Resort 2011 shows. No really, it was glorious. Because I secretly feel as though when a designer does their resort collection, they aren't all 'MUST MAKE BIG FANTASTIC FASHION STATEMENT', I think they're probably more like, 'This collection is the new wardrobe for me and my besties as we spend our time doing fabulous things/things that we make cool and hip just because we happen to be the ultimate trendsetters.'

Consequently I picture myself wearing pieces from the Resort collections while partaking in wonderful activities like playing sardines with my boy Thakoon on some fabulous yacht. Like I said, GLO.RI.USSS.

So I have picked my faves and because no good outfit should ever be left behind, they each receive rewards (I'm all for a touch of kindergarten-style fairness). Are you ready? Because here comes part one.

BEST outfits to wear every day in real life: Vena Cava

BEST First Date Fabulous: Giambattista Valli

BEST Accessory: Rachel Roy (that hat is making me weak in the knees)

BEST James Bond Babe Apparel: DVF and Jenni Kayne

BEST Surprise Model Choice: Crystal Renn for Chanel....and she looks BANGIN

BEST Power Pigment: Roksanda Ilincic, Yves Saint Laurent

BEST Impossible Outfit: Thakoon (but can I quickly say, hats off to this guy for making see-through pants look classy and fabulous)

Well my Canadianistas, are you not just dying a la Rachel Zoe to know who else won? Stay tuned for Part Two!

LIKE ZOOOMIIIGAWWWD YOU GUYS I leave for Paris in (almost precisely) one week!! And my facial expression right now is basically a perfect replica of what you are seeing in this photo. But there is a never ending list between me and my arrival. I have a camera. I have a phone. I have a 50% black wardrobe. I have an enormous shoe collection....now all I need to figure out is like, oh y'knoooow, what to pack, my budget, places to visit, places to SHOP (dammit. my budget just doubled). So I'm doing some serious searching above and beyond what my Lonely  Planet guide has to offer. First stop? The first lady blogger of Paris...Garance DorĂ©.

The vintage store she talks about already has me drooling. CAN.NOT.WAIT.

PS anyone out there have any tips or places to go? I would love to hear it!

Drake was worth the wait

Alright so in case you haven't been listening to Drake's hot new disc since it was released just over 24 hours ago, allow me to bring you up to speed: IT IS AMAZING. Drake's voice is so swoonworthy I can barely handle it. It's probably the Canadian in him..... Anyways, it appears that his new soon-to-be-hit single is also my favourite song on the album (LUCKY OR WHAT?!) so today I checked out the music video and even though I started off super confused when it comes to the plot line (WHAT was this guy doing in some Caribbean rough and tumble neighbourhood?? HALF HIS ALBUM IS ABOUT HOW RICH HE HAS BECOME), I have found a way for you to all just sit back and enjoy the song. Because your girl just happens to have figured out what this music video is all about....I hope you enjoy my in depth analysis.

The video opens with Drake being mentored by a street/life wise oldish guy who informs Drake that he needs to go and get away from the Bad Man because no matter how good those sexytimes he shared with the Babe were, the guy is like a serious Bad Man and will probably eff him up with kicking and stuff and so Drake should obviously leave.

Then Drake talks about how bad it is to own people (I think this might mean the Babe is a prostitute??) and how much he'll regret not seeing the Babe for more sexytimes but the Wise Guy proves his wisdom by putting on his sunglasses and telling Drake he needs to put the music first.

But Drake is too full of memories of lingerie and you just know he's not going to respect his elder's sage wisdom and will probably make poor decisions. Idiot. But whatever, THE SONG IS STARTING.

I would love to be invited to this party. From what I can tell, the following is an appropriate outfit:
Top and Bottoms: American Apparel (as if you couldn't tell).

Not only would it be somewhere to wear all that ridiculous overpriced spandex AA sells, but now that SYTYCD has started its 7th season, this outfit is becoming more and more reasonable to me. I would also love to be part of the choreographed dance line.

LOLS to the gold-faced flaming motorcyclist

MORE SERIOUS TALKING: Bad Man is receiving news about Drake and refers to him as the Brown Boy (I think). Says 'What the f***' and grabs his crew. OMG DRAKE RUN YOU ARE SO SULTRY AND SWOONWORTHY PLEASE DON'T LET THE MASKED MOTORCYCLIST AND BAD MAN GET YOU!!

Cut to sexytimes scenes and lols product placement. Sup Jergens cream and Dove deodorant. At least the Babe is smooth and smells great.

OMGOMGOMG DANGER. Dammit. Bad Man and his crew came to interrupt Drake/Brown Boy's peeping tom session (did American Apparel sponsor the video too? I cannot get over the Babe's outfits)

I think something bad happens to Drake. I don't want to talk about it. Drake's next single better have a video featuring him escaping and coming back to Toronto.

What this video is all about: Don't cross lines and listen to the Wise Guys in your life.

Get Real

I looooove TV. Sometimes I can barely remember life before Gilmore Girls and The Hills (this is obviously an exaggeration but hopefully you get what I mean). But as much as I don't think I'll ever give up on The City (how awesome is Erin? SHE IS SO AWESOME) or Project Runway, I have come to the realization that it may be in my best interest to watch a little less. So I have made a summer time rule: only one hour of TV a day (Mondays w/the Bachelorette are obviously an exception...). The rest of the time I need to read! Get outside! And do some informal learning via TED Talks and museum visits! Because learning and reading and getting outside are all important and exciting things and let's be honest, there are only so many conversations that can come out of my surface-level investment in Ali's romantic future and why Olivia refuses to support Whitney's line (no but seriously, what is this girl's problem?).

Maybe it's the new graduate in me but I have a future to make happen and the more I get out there and do cool things, the more exciting my future will be (so smart and groundbreaking, right?). No one wants 'knew a lot about the exciting lives of others' written on their tombstone. That would just look stupid.

So here comes another TED Talk. But this one really is about fashion and it's very cool so ch-check it out! I would tell you more but I need to get off this couch!

Don't ever stop learning

I got really lucky with my university degree. Why? Because for the most part, I actually really liked what I was learning. So yesterday when I officially graduated from university I was kind of a little sad knowing that because I won't be going into a Master's program right away, learning the cool things I like so much has kind of been put on hold. But wait! This guy (also known as James H Kunstler) just managed to not only remind me why I was so down with my expensive uni education, but also reminded me that there are still plenty of ways to learn out there. Big love TED Talks.
PS, no, this is not very fashion-related but it's still very interesting and very important so at least watch the last minute okay??

Blair Waldorf was onto something

I really like my hair. I mean, I don't want to toot my own horn too loudly over here, but it's kind of my thing and may or may not have received the 'best' seal of approval from my high school yearbook (but like, who even remembers those sorts of things anyways? For sure not me). As a result, I don't really like to take chances with my lovely locks. I would NEVER sit in the hair stylist's chair and say, 'ooooh just go crazy with it! take a chance!' because that would be foolish and a million other opposite-of-awesome/intelligent things.

But in recent months I have found myself in serious need of a little hair excitement and hunting for a solution has led me to my new favourite thing: HEADBANDS. They're wonderful. They can tidy a bad hair day, add glamour to an outfit, bring a pop of colour to a monotone ensemble and the best part? You can be far more crazy and experimental with your headband than your actual head of hair.

My favourite places to shop for them include Aldo Accessories (headbands I can ALWAYS afford), Club Monaco (headbands I need a specialish occasion to justify buying - I mean, $50? The cluster of cloth isn't that precious you guys) and Jennifer Behr (if I ever buy one of these, damn straight I will be willing it to my grandchildren...BUT THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL).

Oh, and for the record, the accessory goes on the RIGHT. It's a Waldorf rule.
Now, can you see the resemblance?? Basically twinsies.

Turn it on

I.AM.BAAAAACK!!! And already have so many things to write about. But first let's start with my new favourite album which I have been listening to for all my celebratory 'welcome back to the city' dance parties. Remember Kelis? And all her silly sexytimes kitsch that caused some of us to feel just a little uncomfortable every time we sipped a formerly sexually innocent milkshake?? Well she's kind of had a makeover. And while I suggest you skip trying on her new headgear, the music is some kind of awesome.
